Abstract
The device to improve the performance of an engine comprises, for each cylinder (1) in the engine, a smaller diameter cylinder(11) which is mounted in opposition to its respective cylinder in the cylinder head of the engine. The smaller diameter cylinders also contain reciprocating pistons(3) which are displaced by cams(41). These cams may be driven from the engine crankshaft or from the valve camshaft(5) to produce extra compression of the mixture(M) in the engine cylinders by displacement of the smaller pistons. The system may be used in two or four stroke engines.
