Abstract

The feeder for battery hens avoid uneven distribution of food, and selective and wasteful feeding by the birds. It consists of a moving hopper (1) drawn by hand or electrically. The hoopers have apertures (6, 7) adjustable for size by means of sliding trapdoors (8, 9) at each side of the base, through which is threaded a spiral or zigzag wire (3) attached to each end of the row of cages. As the hoppers move along, the wire is drawn through the apertures, dragging out the feed into the trough (12) below.
