Abstract

A compressor and vacuum unit for data processing use has separate compressor or vacuum pump bodies each with an impeller and shaft seal. The impeller design, number of vanes, its width, and the design of the chamber depends on its use, but the outside dimensions of the body and of the impeller diameter are constant. The required bank of compressors or pumps is assembled, end faces together, and retained as a single unit by nuts on threaded rods passing through its length. A common shaft is fitted through all hubs to drive all impellers by means of a belt pulley or gear at one end. Ball bearings are fitted at the ends.
