Abstract

A gas burner for baking ovens etc. comprises a number of independently burning jets spaced along a supporting pipe which supplies them with gas, each jet having main flame orifice and a smaller, pilot flame orifice. The jets all protect from the pipe to pass through the base of a common, U-section channel of which the sides extent beyond the outer tips of hte jets to shelter the pilot flames. The channel can be formed integral with the pipe or can be removably attached to the pipe by jet shoulders clamping the base of the channel as jets are screwed into the pipe; in the latter case, pref. some of the jets are not fully screwed in, to leave a clearance between shoulder and channel base. The burner can be made in strip or ring form. Used in multi-jet gas burner partic. suitable for industrial biscuit-making ovens. The channel prevents accidental extinguishing of the pilot flames; ignition of main flames spreads instantly to all jets along the channel.
