Abstract
Insole for an athletic shoe comprising a layer of material tapering in thickness to a point at the toe of the shoe and bonded to the upper and to a sole which has integral spikes and which terminates in a concave web beneath the instep of the shoe. The taper on the cross-section of the insole should be about 1/10. USed esp. for running shoes for sprint racing. The tapered insole bends to allow the angle of contact between the shoe and the ground to vary to obtain grip and thrust. Pref. the insoles are made of low density ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer of 55-60 Shore hardness.
