Abstract
The windmill rotor has four radial blades (2) welded to a central tube (7) attached by an end cap (9) to a concentric shaft (5) which rotates in bearings inside the tube (3). The rotor is partly covered by a deflector (1) mounted on a rectangular frame (6) attached to the tube (11) which is free to rotate about the tube (3). The deflector (1) carries a vane (4) which tends to keep the deflector facing the wind. In this way only half the rotor is exposed to the wind which impinges on the blades (2) causing them to rotate whilst the blades moving in the opposite direction to the wind are shielded from it.
