Abstract

Light conducting contact fitted to the end of a fibre optics cable and used for coupling to a similar cable which must be aligned. It consists of a bush (10) with a longitudinal hole (12) for the end of the cable. The hole has a section (14) which tapers inwards from one end (16) of the bush to the slightly cone shaped. The second section (18) is relatively short and cylindrical and extends from the end of the tapered section to the other end (20). The outer rim of the bush has an extension (22) engaging with a shoulder of the contact. The bush is made from brass and the two sets of fibres are inserted from opposite ends.
