Abstract

Process for rolling hoop iron or flat steel strip uses the continuous cold rolling of hot-rolled around wire rod fed from a coil through rollers for mechanical descaling, and then through a universal rolling until (I) followed by a rolling mill (II) rotating a higher speed than mill (I) to stretch the strip during its formation and also to preheat the strip, which is immediately annealed to profit from the preheating; the strip then passes through a third rolling mill and is sheared to a variable length depending upon the purpose for which the strip is required. The pref. plant includes a double stool uncoiler and a device ensuring a constant strip speed through the annealing furnace, which is followed by shears. Method is simple and inexpensive for mfg. cold rolled flat strip, where the heat produced in rolling reduces the energy requirement in the annealing furnace.
