Abstract

The elbow joint for pipework permits a considerable variation of the angle between the pipe axes by making the cross section of one of the elbow ends (12) oval. Internally, faces (15, 15') parallel to each other and to the pipe axis are formed and are spaced a distance apart equal to the outside diameter of the pipe to be inserted. These faces thus form a lateral location for the pipe whilst shoulders (17) which are further in-set the correct amount of insertion. A U-section seal (22) fits closely in a groove (20) on the outside of the elbow and turns inward over the edge, its inside diameter then being such as to seal against the pipe inserted.
