Abstract

The seal is used in the chemical industries, where the shaft rotates in a housing with two adjacent chambers at different pressures. There is at least one sealing ring round the shaft kept in tension by a seal holder. Each sealing ring (20, 21) is made from elastic plastic material capable of withstanding at least 100 degrees C. The sealing rings press against a circular contact ring (9, 10) which fits round the shaft and is held by a carrier (8). The latter is made from a polyamide plastic and has an elastically tensioned locking device (16) holding it in a recess in the shaft.
