Abstract

The inner ring (5) of the seal is made from nylon or Teflon (RTM) plastics and has a smaller inside diameter than the outside diameter of the shaft (1), giving a push on fit. Each side is provided with an annular flange (5a) forming a shoulder. Over this ring, and between the flanges, is fitted a ring (6) of flexible elastomeric materials; this being a tight fit over the inner ring and a compression fit in the housing (2). Pressure (P) applied from one side (3), deforms (4) the elastomer and forms another seal (7), preventing leakage between the inner ring and the elastomer.
