Abstract
The hollow triangular section timber roof purlin is esp. for use with laminated timber sub-structural portal frames. The purlin (1) is of right angled triangular section, the hypotenuse forming the top flange (4) and roof surface, the two inclined webs (3) converging on a bottom flange (2) of nominal width, and both top and bottom flanges embody tow longitudinal grooves or notches for reception of the webs whose ends have locating notches (12, 15). Pref. the bottom flange and webs each constitute planks and the top flange is laminated with web to flange joints glued. Adjacent purlins may be directly connected or separated by spacers.
