Abstract

The detoxification of gases contg. HCN and/or nitrous gas is achieved by absorbing these on at least 60, pref. 80-95% H2SO4 and converting them to harmless prods. If the nitrous gas content exceeds that of HCN, NH4 cpds. pref. are added. The process is simple and safe in operations. It is esp. useful for processing waste contg. cyanides and nitrites, e.g. hardening shop waste. The prods. formed are N2, H2O, CO2 and CO, which can be burned.
