Abstract

Bags made from successive lengths of thermoplastic film folded and welded so that the fold forms the base of the back, are provided with ties by applying ancillary strips of tape parallel to and close to the mouth of the bag and leaving parts of the tapes unsecured by welding so tha tthe free loops may be interlaced to hold the mouth of the bag closed. The ancillary ties help to keep the bag contents secure when carrying non-rigid articles which cause flexible bags to sag. The loops are more easily held than loose ends which can become untied. The bags are made of biaxially oriented film, and the tapes of compatible matl. but oriented longitudinally. The bags may be of single or double ply walls, i.e., made by folding tubular thermoplastic film, opt. folded so that one lip of the bag mouth is slightly higher than the other.
