Abstract

The filter is particularly for cigarettes, allowing the smokers to obtain two or more different filtration rates. It has a mechanical smoke conditioning core (7) placed in the path of the smoke, and having one or more smoke passages whose cross section is variable by the smoker. The core is preferably combined with conventional filter plugs (5, 6) or other conventional retaining devices. The adjustment can include a slide and a scale to show the degree of filtration selected, and the core can have malleable impermeable walls, which can be twisted so as to vary its cross section and form a helical passage.
