Abstract

1322021 Tobacco smoke filters MOLINS MACHINE CO 24 June 1970 4232/70 Divided out of 1299855 Heading A2C Filters for cigarettes &c. are produced by forming a continuous rod with a plurality of axially extending grooves, providing first closure means spaced at regular intervals in alternate grooves and second closure means in the other grooves at positions between the first closure means, and cutting the rod through the closure means to form a succession of individual filters of which adjacent grooves are closed at opposite ends. By this arrangement smoke is caused to pass through the filter material between adjacent grooves. As shown, filter rod is extruded with axial grooves 47....52 which are either provided with spaced closures in the form of triangular-section stubs or are closed at intervals by local deformation of a themoplastic skin 54. The central part of the rod is replaced by a core 53 of relatively cheap material which will resist axial compression.
