Abstract

The light alloy or plastic wheel rim is pressed into the required shape complete with retaining shoulders for the tyre walls and holes for the wheel studs. Reinforcing fibres or cords are embedded in the wheel rim during manufacture and run essentially radially with one end of each fibre secured around a metal ring around the edge of the wheel rim and the other end on a ring near the centre cut-out of the wheel rim. An improved design is obtained by having the fibres running tangentially to the centre cut-out, with each end secured on the outer edge of the wheel rim.
