Abstract

The deflector cowl may be made out of steel or aluminium or of plastic material. The deflector consists of a number of vertically spaced vanes. The vanes are on a conical surface so that any wind entering the deflector, from any angle is deflected upwards. The chimney gases join the air flow and the combined flow takes on a rotational flow inside the cowling, which increases it velocity and increases the updraught in the chimney. The deflector may be used for the ventilation of heavy gases. In their case the draught is taken well clear of the ventilator outlet by the high velocity of the gases.
