Abstract

Improved process for obtaining electroplated coatings on localised surfaces, the novelty being the use of a moving solid element which is partly immersed in the electrolyte so the latter is drawn up to from a layer of liq. with a controlled thickness and position. The surface of the moving element may be smooth or contain slots, undulations, grooves or other surface irregularities having the object of picking up the electrolyte and controlling the thickness of the liq. layer; the element may also be made of a porous material so it is impregnated with the liq., thus improving conduction. The thickness of the layer is pref. varied by altering the depth of immersion of the element and/or its speed. Selective electroplating the surfaces of small parts e.g. depositing precious metal on the contact end of a reed for a sealed reed relay. Substantial savings in the hand labour previously involved in masking the zones which do not require plating.
