Abstract

Rigid, dimensionally stable and fire-retardant polyurethane foam from (a) the reaction prod. of crude tall oil (I) contg. at least 5 wt. % rosin acid and also at least 4 wt. % unsaponifiable hydrocarbons and a dialkanolamine (II) of formula , where R' and R" are alkylene gps. of 1-8C atoms and wherein 0.2-2.5 moles excess of (II) are employed and (b) an organic isocyanate. Use of crude tall oil as specified gives foam of better rigidity, resistant to both moist and dry ageing. Fire retardant additives do not adversely influence dimensional stability. Reaction with isocyanate proceeds at adequate rate without catalyst leading to lower shrinkage on ageing.
