Abstract

A hard metal cutting tip (2) is brazed onto the shank (1). On its top face is mounted a chip breaker (3), also having a hard metal tip (5, 6) brazed to it. This chip-breaker is pivoted (4) in the tool shank to permit movement. In the body of the shank is a longitudinal blind hole communicating with a slot in the top face under the chip breaker. A projection on this passes through the slot into the hole and a headed pin is held against it by a compression spring. This provides a resistance varying with the metal being removed. A pressure adjusting screw is fitted.
