Abstract

A flat clutch plate, of the type having a metal backing plate bonded by a resin to a friction material, is made by assembling plate, material and resin bonding agent, deforming the assembly to a dish shape with the metal on the convex side, heating the assembly to cure the bonding agent and finally releasing the plate thus formed to allow the forces caused by the curing of the bonding agent to distort the plate back to its original flat configuration. Preferably the backing plate is of aluminium, the bonding agent of 'Cycloweld H-2' and the friction material of organic woven material. Deformation is preferably effected between shaped dies and a stack of plates may be distorted in one operation.
