Abstract

The safety connector (10) for electric equipment (5) comprises a current transformer (12) with a tertiary winding (15). When an insulation fault occurs between a circuit element (7) within the electric equipment and the case (5) of this equipment, a difference between currents in the wires (8, 9) supplying the equipment can occur. The tertiary winding can sense this difference in currents. If the tertiary winding current rises above a preset level, it will actuate a relay or a semiconductor device (11) so as to increase the current demand from the mains. The current can then set-off a fuse (3) and cut-off the mains supply from the equipment. All the component contained within block (10) can be assembled within a normal electric plug if a judicious choice is made of these components.
