Abstract

A single acting hydraulic cylinder applies its piston force directly to the pad on one side of the brake disc when it outstrokes. The reaction from the rear of the cylinder is transmitted to the second pad on the other side of the disc. This force transmission is done by a ring shaped plate which encircles the cylinder and the two brake pads. The radial braking reaction on the transmission plate is countered by elastic elements which are fixed to the rigid brake support frame. This layout forms a compact yet simple disc brake system which allows easy replacement of brake pads.
