Abstract

Thermally stable lubricants are based on one or more quinoxaline derivs. of formula (I): (where R is linear or branched 1-12C alkyl or an aromatic radical, including benzyl). (I) where R is branched 6C alkyl, linear or branched 7-12C alkyl or an aromatic radical (including benzyl) are new cpds. Liq. cpds. (I) are useful as base oils for lubricants which can be used at high temps. (>=300 degrees C); solid cpds. (I) can be used as plasticisers for polyolefins and PVC. (I) where R is 2-ethylhexyl, 2,2,4-trimethylpentyl, 3,5,5-trimethylhexyl, dodecyl and benzyl are specif. claimed. (I) can be prepd. by reacting (II) and (III) to obtain (IV) (I; R is H) which is reacted with POCl3/pyridine to give (V) (I; OR is Cl) which is reacted with NaOR to give (I).
