Abstract

Hosiery is produced on circular knitting machine having >=4 yarn supply stations disposed symmetrically about the needle cylinder by (a) oscillating the needle cylinder about an arc of >=360 degrees w.r.t. a reference pt. (b) feeding multi-coloured yarns to all the yarn supply stations, nc) disabling permanently half the number of needles and sets the remainder for each of the supply stations, (d) allowing the remainder number of needles to operate continuously during oscillation of the cylinder, (e) selecting some of the needles for pattern knitting, and (f) allowing all needles of the needle cylinder to operate simultaneously such each of the needle sectors knits the yarn supplied by the respective supply station into a stitch row. Ladies' stockings and mens' and childrens' socks, can all be produced by this process. Pref. the needles are selected by a program during each oscillating stroke of the needle cylinder. Moreover, the hosiery is knitted in a number of sections corresponding to the number of supply stations and the sections are interconnected with each other to form a unitary hose.
