Abstract

A cylindrical casing (1) is rotated by a chain drive (13, 14, 17) at one end, with a hopper (5) at that end through which sawdust falls onto the outside of the casing. The sawdust is then conveyed between this casing and an outer cylinder (3) by a spiral conveyor (2) to the burner (25) end. This burner directs a combustion flame down the centre of the cylinders, and air is blown through a cyclone (22) around the flame, this cyclone and the burner forming the end of the cylinder. The sawdust is delivered through an annular gap (24) around the cyclone and burns in the air passing through the inner cylinder (1) which forms the combustion chamber. After a time, the burner is cut off, and the sawdust alone forms the flame.
