Abstract

The fast patrol boat has a compact engine room, separated from the rest of the boat by watertight bulkheads, and with a separate control point above the engines, also protected by watertight bulkheads. The engines are horizontally opposed piston types driving one or more screws via reduction gears, with a standby generator between them. The exhaust systems are arranged on each side of the engine room with the exhaust manifolds leading into a porous tube whose inside is sprayed with cooling water to cool the gases before passing through a box shaped silencer with porous baffle plates and out under the waterline. The boat is thus silenced, while the cooled exhaust systems reduce detection by infrared.
