Abstract
The self steering gear designed to maintain the heading of a sailing ship into the wind has a means designed to counteract parasitic movement due to the swell of the sea, a possibility of control of amplitude response, a possible compensation of rails residual adjustment defects. For swell compensation, shock absorbing means are used in the underwater controls. The amplitude response is adjusted by variation of the relative heights of the underwater rudder and aerial rudder bars. Sail compensation is obtained by altering the length of the underwater rudder bar.
