Abstract

Between the primary and secondary windings, which are arranged in alternate layers, there are several washers made of non-magnetic conducting sheets. The washers may consist of thin sheets of copper. At least one transverse slot is cut in a radial direction through each non-magnetic washer to make the washer open circuit rather than closed circuit, and by this means, the induced eddy current is reduced in the steel core. When the transformer is used to suply current to electroplating baths etc. the dimensions of the non-magnetic washers slightly exceed the dimensions of the windings.
