Abstract
Steam microleaks are localised in a sodium/water heat exchanger, as in 2,059,370. The normal liquid used, esp. water is used as the H-contng. localisation fluid. Inert gas is introduced into groups of pipes including heat exchange tube(s), and the indications of a leak detector which responds to H2, esp. in Na, are observed until a zero indication shows the leaky pipe. Pref. the inert gas is a noble gas or N2. The H2 measurement is in the gas above the Na. Apparatus has each heat exchange tube connected to a pipe duct for inert gas feed, with a control valve and an inert gas source. The zero reading results from exclusion of water from the pipe by the inert gas.
