Abstract

The windscreen wiper arm is a U-profiled metal pressing which is hinged on the fitting socket by a rivet hinge. A hinged arm is fitted with a spring which locates on a tag formed by stamping from the top or side of the wiper arm. In the case of thin metal arm the arrangement can be formed by several tags shaped to reinforce each other and thus eliminate one part of the windscreen wiper arm construction, which would otherwise have to be rivetted on. The hole left by stamping out the tag(s) can be covered by a plastics cap insert which can also carry the windscreen washer jets.
