Abstract

An injection moulding appts. comprises a mould constituted of two or more parts which can be brought in motion one relative to the others to define a mould chamber; the mould closure mechanism is constructed to enable the half-moulds to be brought continuously and gradually together during injection, the mould being supplied successively from two separate injection units via a single multi-way valve which permits only one unit to inject at one time; thus it is possible for a component having a foam core but a dense outer skin to be moulded with a continuous closure of the mould squeezing the material laterally as it is introduced into the mould. A control mechanism actuates the multiway valve to ensure switching over from the skin material to the core material while the half-moulds are still in relative motion. Pref. a number of limit switches actuated by the position of the half-moulds and also the positions of the two separate injection units controls the sequence of mould closure restraint, first injection, second injection and return to first injection to close the sprue.
