Abstract

In multiple effect evaporation plant the vapour driven off in one effect from a liquid to be concentrated is passed to the heater or the next effect vapour from the final effect being directed to a condenser essentially, part of the vapour from the penultimate effect is directed to a second condenser. Pref. condenser cooling water is used first in the final effect condenser and then re-used in the second condenser. The plant is useful for concentrating liq. prods, partic. heat sensitive prods. such as milk. Condensn. takes place partly at the temp. of the final effect and partly at the temp. of the penultimate effect which being higher, requires a reduced quantity of cooling water. Lower pressures and boiling temps. in earlier effects are needed.
