Abstract
Appts. is intended to provide conditions for preserving organic materials, such as foods, meat, vegetables, plants, flowers etc. at a press. below that of the atmos. The chamber comprises insulated walls. a heat exchanger, a press. reducing expansion element and an evaporator with an outlet pipe ending in a conical nozzle. The spray is directed towards a radiator through which water from the liq. mass in the evaporator is circulated by a pump. A temp. probe near the outlet of the chamber, controls an electric heater in the lower part of the evaporator. The water level control for the evaporator may include a desalination system with a reverse osmosis membrane and a mixed-bed ion exchanger. A controlled preservation atmos. in obtd. by the expansion of satd. air, and its consequent cooling, without the use of close circuit refrigerators. Appts. is partic. suitable for the storage and transport of green bananas from tropical regions to northern cities in winter.
