Abstract

By impressing a controlled oscillating magnetic field on a magnetic ink in a capillary tube, the ink is prevented from adhering to the tube sides. The ink is released to paper travelling under tube in a series of dots by altering the magnitude of the oscillations with a separate direct current excited magnetic field or by a variable electrostatic field. By arranging a number of tubes across the direction of paper movement facsimile reproduction is possible. The tubes have upper and lower coil wound around them and a continuous current is applied to the upper coil to magnetise the ink in a direction parallel to the tube axis, an alternating current then being applied to oscillate the magnetised ink particle and maintain its fluidity. The second coil receives a current which provides a reverse magnetic field, the interaction of the fields ejecting the ink.
