Abstract

Process for combatting the formation or presence of adhesions (build ups) on the walls of metallurgical vessels comprises injecting an oxidising gas, e.g. pure O2 or O2 enriched air through the side wall at >=1 point situated at a given distance from the lip or charging hole, and above the normal level of the materials (melt and slag) being treated, so as to melt splashes adhering to the wall and/or to stop the splashes from adhering to the wall. The process is partic useful in Thomas and Basic Oxygen Converters.
