Abstract

Scrap iron is treated by introducing it into a metallurgical vessel whose base and/or side walls are furnished with >=1 tuyere having 2 concentric channels, the scrap being fused by blowing through the tuyere commercially pure oxygen, pref. through the central channel, and gas or liquid fuel through the other channel, in such proportion that the gases formed contain >=70% of (CO +H2).
