Abstract

A surgical stocking is knitted from non-elastic yarn (e.g. 2/4 d tex textured nylon yarn) and has (a) a lower region extending pref. from the ankle to below the knee which is tightly knit and which includes an elastic weft for every course; (b) an inter region extending pref. from below to above the knee which is more loosely knit and which includes an elastic weft yarn for each two courses; and (c) an upper region extending pref. from above the knee to the stocking top which is even more loosely knit and which also has an elastic weft yarn for every two courses. The elastic weft yarn in all regions may be the same e.g. a gimped circular rubber filament grade No. 64. Alternatively the elastic yarn in the inter region may be finer (e.g. Grade No. 125) and may be combined with a non-elastic yarn (e.g. 2/44 d tex textured nylon yarn). The stocking is more effective than stockings only having two different regions of support.
