Abstract

The open end of a plastic pipe is cold-expanded to an enlarged internal dia. equal to its original external dia. so that a similar, unexpanded pipe end can be fitted inside to form a joint. A non-cutting expander tool is aligned coaxially with the open end and then forced gradually into the pipe during relative rotation between pipe and tool on the same axis. The tool pref. comprises three or four, radial, non-cutting blades with a tapered leading end. The pipe end can be secured coaxially opposite a screw which simultaneously rotates and carries forward the tool which may be held in a collet or chuck.
