Abstract

Limp endovenious catheter tubes are pushed into viens by support from a relatively stiff internal probe having limited contact with the tubing walls. The catheter tubes should have a sealed tip with radial openings to allow fluid flow from the tube to the vein. The mandrel is pref. a metal rod or spring introduced via a mouth-piece which provides a standard coupling between the mouth of the catheter and an external fluid supply line. The mouthpiece is capped to support the mandrel during insertion, of esp. non self-supporting thin wall tubes of silicone rubber for relatively long-term use without biological rejection.
