Abstract
The tank, notably for use in a sugar refinery for treating the sugar juices before liming, comprises a cylindrical tank (10) with a vertical axis; it has a conical base (12) and a cover (14). The liq. to be purified is introduced by an annular overflow (16) from which it pours into an annular, vertical conduit (18) formed by the wall of the tank and an internal, concentric skirt (20). The liq from the overflow, with its crenellated edge to ensure uniform distribution, flows through (18) and reaches the bottom of the tank via the circular space (22); the clarified liq. flows into a central bowl (26) from which it is evacuated by the pipe (28). A scraping system at the bottom of the tank, with blades (30) rotated by a mechanism (36), brings the sludge to a central pit (38) from which it is evacuated by pump (40). The liq. feed is uniform around the whole periphery of the tank so that its speed is very low when it penetrates the sludge bed; this allows the treatment of prods. with a very light, fragile flocculate and also reduces the dwell time.
