Abstract
An IR analyser includes an IR source directing (e.g. through respective filters) three rays of different wave length into a material (e.g. paper) of which a property (e.g. humidity content) is to be measured. One of the rays is a measuring ray and is of such a wavelength that its absorption by the material is dependent on the property and the other rays are reference rays and have wavelengths determined by other properties. The parts of the rays not absorbed by the material (e.g. the reflected parts) are collected by pref. a common sensor which provides corresponding output signals which are added by a control circuit, and the sum of the output signals is divided by the output signal corresponding to the reference ray to provide a ratio signal which determines the value of the property being measured.
