Abstract

The ternary copolymer contains 50 - 90 mole ethylene, 5 - 10 mole. % propylene and less than 10 mole. % of a nonconjugated diene, pref. ethylidenenorbornene; its green strength should be 21 - 134 kg/cm2 (when not extended with oil). The vulcanisation rate is substantially increased compared with known materials of this type so that it can successfully be covulcanised (with sulphur) with a highly unsatd. rubber such as natural rubber, and synthetic styrene-butadiene-, butadiene-, acrylonitrile-butadiene, chloroprene- and isoprene rubbers (when the difference in the vulcanisation rate is too large, the vulcanisation process does not proceed uniformly and products having poor mechanical properties are obtained); the molar ratio ternary copolymers - unsatd. rubber is 9 : 1 to 1 : 9. Products having valuable properties are obtained.
