Abstract

Articles mfd. have walls comprising two layers of material, one a thermosetting resin opt. with reinforcing fibres and the other a natural of synthetic rubber. Esp. ducts or pipes are produced where the resin layer is a polyester or polyepoxide reinforced with rovings, filaments, mats or cloths made of metal, carbon, glass or textile materials. Pref. the resin and rubber layers are overlaid as crude or precured materials and subsequently heat cured simultaneously. Esp. the mandrel of a filament cured simultaneously. Esp. the mandrel of a filament winding machine is sheathed with a tube or sheet of uncured rubber, overwound with resin impregnated filaments and both layers hot cured under pressure. Combines high strength with good internal abrasion resistance, toughness, sound and vibration damping and resistance to temporary crushing without development of leaks or serious loss of hoop strength.
