Abstract

A roving consisting entirely, or including a proportion (e.g. 5-25%), of potentially adhesive fibres (e.g. nylon, polyethylene terephalate) is false twisted, pref. by air vortex, and is heated e.g. by a hot roll, hot air, or steam to activate the potentially adhesive fibres and cause them to adhere to each other, or to non-adhesive fibres (e.g. cotton) to produce a coherent yarn. The yarn is used for knitting and does not fluff up. It has a tenacity of 0.5g/d tex, and a stiffness of 0.005.
