Abstract

Plaster mould coated with a porous ceramic for slip casting and press moulding. The ceramic e.g. alumina is sprayed onto the plaster mould or onto a metallic substrate, having a low m.pt. e.g. Zn or Al, previously sprayed onto the plaster mould. The metallic substrate can be reinforced by metal embedded in the plaster and projecting above its surface. Alternatively the mould can be fabricated by spraying the ceramic onto a die and pouring the plaster into the die. After hardening the mould is removed. The ceramic coating prevents wear and the life of the mould is increased.
