Abstract

Catalytic converter for the exhaust system of an automobile comprises (a) a container with inlet and outlet respectively connected to the upstream and downstream sections of the motor exhaust system; (b) a catalyst bed installed in the container in such a way that it forms a chamber with an inlet for the introduction of secondary air; (c) >=1 first passage in the catalyst bed one end of which is connected to the inlet and the other to the chamber, and >=1 second passage sharing a common partition with the first passage and connected at one end to the chamber and at the other to the outlet, and (d) a catalyst covering the surface of the inner wall of each first and second passage.
