Abstract
Hydrocarbon conversions, pref. reformation, isomerisation, dehydrogenation and hydrocracking, are carried out by contacting the hydrocarbon, pref. in the presence of H2, with a composite catalyst contg. a Pt gp. metal, Re, Sn and a halogen associated on a porous support, pref. alumina. The catalyst pref. contains 0.01-1 wt.% Pt gp. metal (esp. Pt) 0.01-1 wt.% Re and 0.1-5 wt. % Sn. the molar ratio of Pt to Sn being 0.1-3:1 and that of Pt to Re being 0.5-2.75:1. the concn. of the halogen, pref. Cl or a Cl cpd. is pref. 0.1-3.5%. The catalyst may also contain 0.05-0.5 wt.% S. The catalyst gives higher conversions and higher selectivity at lower temps. and has better stability to deactivation, then conventional Pt. gp. metal catalysts.
