Abstract

Improving the ignition resistance of thin facades or coatings by backing them with a thin layer of a material with good heat dissipation characteristics. Pref. the dissipating layer is aluminium foil 0.030-0.060, pref. 0.045-0.055 mm thick, laminated or stuck to the back of the main surface layer or applied to a substrate and then covered with the main coating or facade. Esp. for improving the non-flammability test ratings of plastic sheets or films about 0.15-0.2 mm thick, such as wall coverings or decorative layers on cladding or partition panels, when submitted to local radiant heating. May produce a non-inflammable rating, and is cheaper than use of flame retardant formulations for the primary coating.
